Climbing Club (term time)

Bendrigg Trust Paraclimbing Club is great for young people of all abilities, so whether you have never climbed before or you are an experienced climber looking to progress your skills, our wall offers a variety of challenges to suit all abilities.

Our highly skilled staff will support you to take part in climbing whatever your ability and we have a range of specialist equipment available for attendees use during sessions free of charge including hoists, climbing shoes, helmets and a variety of harnesses.

DATES & PRICES

The club runs fortnightly during term time on a Wednesday from 5:30pm – 7pm starting from 22nd September 2021 onwards (see all dates on booking link below) and the club aims to enable people of all abilities to climb in a safe, supported and fun environment.

Rock Days (school holidays)

We also run Rock Days as an extension of the paraclimbing club. These run from 9:30am – 4pm during school holidays to give you the chance to develop your outdoor climbing skills.

All specialist equipment and transport is provided but you will need some good outdoor shoes suitable for a short walk to the crag on rough terrain. Exact venues will be decided closer to the time depending on the attendees and the weather. Our tutors will always try to have an outdoor venue but where weather makes this trickier a different indoor venue such as Ingleton or Kendal Climbing Wall may be used.

DATES & PRICES

The Rock Days are running on the following dates and cost £26 per person to attend.

29th October 2021

Friday 18th February 2022

Monday 4th April 2022

Monday 11th April 2022

You must book ahead HERE as maximum numbers apply and please let us know about your needs/disability when you book.

(Please note that the climbing club and rock days are heavily dependant on Bendrigg securing funding to cover the cost of staffing and equipment, it may not always be possible for us to put out new dates far in advance but if funding is secured, new dates will be added onto the booking portal and advertised on our social media pages.)

It is preferred that climbers attend the event with a “buddy” or carer but should you feel a buddy is not needed please call us.

We held the climbing festival for the first time in 2020 and the feedback from our climbers and their carers was fantastic.

“We couldn’t fault any of it. It was the perfect mix of climbing, learning skills, about different climbing grips. Having pro-climbers talk and teach us has been amazing, they are so passionate and encouraging.”

We are also please to announce that Team GB Para-climber Anita Aggarwal and John & Lauren aka “The T-shirt Twins”  will be on hand throughout the weekend to offer advice and to chat to all the climbers.

Accessible Activities For Adults

Accessible Activities For Adults With A Disability

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic we are able to offer some subsidised Adult Day Activities for a limited time throughout September and October.

Thanks to funding, Bendrigg can offer some heavily subsidised half day activities over the coming months for adults with a disability, their friends and families. The cost of £72 is for up to 12 people maximum, at least one of which must be an adult (aged 18years+) with a disability.

To ensure we support as many people as possible booking is limited to one day per disabled adult. Please book your slot and we will be in touch to find out more details about your group (number of people, ages, needs etc.)

Half day activities will run from 1.30pm- 4.30pm and could include a selection of activities such as canoeing, cycling, sensory room, archery, zip wire, orienteering, sensory swing and tube slide. Activity availability depends on a number of factors so not all activities may be available on each day. After booking, one of our Tutors will be in touch with you to discuss your individual requirements and suitable activities.

Need Help With Funding? We’ve Got You Covered!

Bendrigg Trust Funding Pack

We recognise that some of our service users often need financial support to be able to come away on a trip to Bendrigg.

With statistics like these, we felt it was important that we do something to help. Which is why we have created a digital funding pack.

What is the funding pack?

The pack is made up of relevant grant making trusts and funders, who specifically fund costs towards holidays and carers for disabled people. This means that if you’d like to come on a trip to Bendrigg, but are struggling to afford the cost, you can simply request a copy of the pack, find a relevant funder and apply to them for financial support.

Who is it for?

It has been created to be used by all our service user groups. That includes :

  • Schools
  • Organisations
  • Individuals
  • Charities
  • Families

There are then further options within each of these sections to help you find the most relevant funders that could help you with the cost towards a trip to Bendrigg.

How can I get a copy of the pack?

All you need to do is ask! Simply call us on 01539 723766 or send us a request via our contact page HERE

Are you a family with a disabled child? We recently wrote a blog piece highlighting some of the services that are available to you…. Check it out here.
