What is the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award?

There are 3 progressive levels of programmes which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.

Each programme consists of the following sections outlined below:

  • Residential (Gold Only)

Fully Inclusive & Accessible Courses At Bendrigg Trust

Bendrigg Trust specialises in the provision of outdoor activities for people with disabilities.

We take special pride in offering fully inclusive & accessible DofE courses to cater for people of all abilities.

Our experienced team can work with you to support and deliver the expedition & residential sections of your DofE Award.

Expeditions

Our highly trained staff are on hand to help you through your DofE expeditions, whether it is the training, practice or qualifying expedition.

Here at Bendrigg we have the specialist equipment to ensure you are able to complete your DofE award to the very best of your ability.

We can provide:
• expeditions via foot, wheelchair, canoe or a combination of all
• accommodation can be either camping with specialist equipment or wheelchair accessible accomodation
• all safety and specialist equipment
• all group equipment supplied including cooking stoves, tents, rucksacks, roll mats, maps & compasses and first aid kit.
• supervision throughout the training and expeditions
• accredited assessors
• support with the variation and green forms
• experienced staff

Residentials

The Residential section of your Gold DofE Award requires you to spend 5 days, 4 nights away from home and in an unfamiliar environment. As an Approved Activity Provider (AAP), we can provide an unforgettable Gold DofE Residential experience here at Bendrigg.

The residential is open to all DofE Gold participants of all abilities, including those with additional support needs.

Please note, although it is acceptable to know a few of the others taking part in this course, the vast majority should not be people already known to the participant.

2024 Courses & Prices

GOLD OPEN ‘BACK TO BACK’ PRACTICE & QUALIFYING EXPEDITION

(7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS) TUESDAY 2ND – MONDAY 8TH APRIL 2024

Price per participant £686 / Price per carer (if needed) £343

This is an exciting and fulfilling experience to complete your Gold Expedition in one go. Over 7 days, you will have the chance to go through the expedition training syllabus and take part in a 2 day, 2 night practice expedition, before finishing with the qualifying expedition on days 4-7.

The expeditions will be fully accessible to cater for each team member’s needs and will be a mixture of walking/pushing & canoeing.

You will be based within our Lodge accommodation with the option (and encouragement!) of camping whilst on expedition. Our accessible accommodation in the Lodge is accessed via a ramp or lift and has ceiling mounted tracking hoists, shower beds, wet rooms and profile beds available. Please let us know your requirements and additional needs.

The price includes full-board accommodation, all activities/instruction, equipment, and collection /drop off from the train station (Oxenholme, Lake District) if needed.

GOLD RESIDENTIAL

We are proud to offer you a unique opportunity to complete your Gold DofE Residential. Over the course of your 5 day (4 nights) residential, you will participate in a range of adventurous activities both on and off-site (evenings too!) including climbing, abseiling, caving in the Yorkshire Dales, canoeing, zip wire, bushcraft, biking and tube slide. You will have the opportunity to explore local lakes, hills & caves whilst also making new friends, enjoying evenings around the campfire and exploring our 15 acres of land. All activities are supported by qualified and experienced staff.

Our accommodation has ceiling mounted H tracking hoists, shower beds, wet rooms and profile beds available. Please let us know your requirements and additional needs.

The residential will start from 12 noon on the Friday and end after lunch on the Tuesday (around 2.30ish).

The price includes full-board accommodation and a full programme of activities (evenings too!).  We can also collect /drop off from our nearby train station (Oxenholme, Lake District) if needed.
