Young Adults Weekend 2022

We are delighted to be hosting our Young Adults Weekend. This course is perfect for those aged between 16-25 years with any disability.

The course will run from Friday 23rd September to Sunday 25th September 2022 and participants can expect to try a range of accessible activities throughout the weekend. These will be onsite in our 15 acre grounds and may include things like bush-craft and climbing. The activities and how they are run, have been designed to help participants develop life skills and work towards their personal goals.

What makes this course different to a typical Bendrigg weekend?

If you’ve been to Bendrigg before, you’ll know that we run action packed courses, full of lots of adventure activities. In this course, we slow down the pace a little and although there are similarities with a “typical” Bendrigg course, the Young Adult Weekend has been designed to have more of a focus around personal goals and moving towards greater independence.

Tell me more!

Young people who book onto this course, will have the opportunity to work on their life skills and independence, at an appropriate level to them. They will be positively supported with the personal responsibilities of being away from home. You may be involved in a range of day-to-day tasks including domestic duties (e.g. making beds), planning and organisation (e.g. finding your way to activities).

There will also be a focus around working together as a team by supporting each other in different ways throughout the weekend.

The focus of the weekend is to encourage participants to move towards greater independence, we know this will look different for everyone. We do hope that there will also be the opportunity for support people to take some time out to relax in the Bendrigg grounds, depending on the needs of the person they are assisting.

We welcome 100’s of visitors of all abilities to Bendrigg each year, and have been doing so for over 40 years! Many of our visitors gain a huge amount of confidence and greater independence from the residential experience. We wanted to take this concept a step further, by hosting a course for Young Adults which has more of an emphasis around the development of life skills through the residential experience. Some of our onsite activities have been adapted for this course, to help provide even more of an opportunity for people to increase their confidence and independence whilst also having a laugh and making new friends.
