Cicerone
Walkers, cyclists, trekkers and mountaineers have trusted Cicerone for over fifty years to ensure they have a great time outdoors and on the trail. Their expert and passionate team of authors, editors and designers work together to produce inspirational and detailed guidebooks and ebooks to the world’s best routes.
A note from Cicerone…
“We at Cicerone believe that the joy of the outdoors should be something that can be experienced by everyone, whatever their background or physical ability. Although many of Cicerone’s guidebooks are tailored towards experienced walkers, by supporting Bendrigg, we hope we can give something special to enable people facing disadvantage to experience fun, adventure and freedom in the outdoors.
Everyone in the Cicerone team is a walker, cyclist, or runner, and we continue to hope that we can be involved in fundraising or in other volunteering capacities in the future. We have found a huge benefit to ourselves in undertaking fundraising walks and other volunteering work. Giving back through effort makes everyday troubles fade into the background and gives us all a deeper respect for people with different abilities who are facing disadvantages and barriers to everyday life.
Bendrigg remains close to our hearts. Located just 5 miles from our offices in Kendal, we enjoy both close cooperation aided by a close location!” – Lesley Williams, Cicerone

The Big Give Christmas Challenge
The team from Cicerone were incredibly generous to donate another £5,000 to our 2021 Big Give Christmas Challenge Campaign helping us to raise a staggering £32,381 in just 7 days. These funds are for our Subsidy Fund which helps to subsidise the cost of our courses for people who would otherwise not be able to afford to come.
2020
In a year like no other, Cicerone continued to Support Bendrigg from afar. They published articles on their blog and social media posts to help us raise awareness for the difficulties we faced as a small charity during the pandemic.
We were delighted when the team were able to support our Big Give Christmas Challenge again in 2020 with another generous £5,000 donation. In 2020 we raised an incredible £24,153 in just seven days, Cicerone played a large part in making that possible.

50th Anniversary
In 2019 Cicerone celebrated their 50th anniversary and chose to support our work by donating 50p from the sale of every guidebook to Bendrigg Trust, as well as giving customers the option of matching their donation.
Proceeds from their online sales amounted to an amazing £10,000 being donated in 2019. £5,000 of these funds were donated through our Big Give Christmas Challenge giving us a huge boost to hit our £12,000 target. Read more in the Westmorland Gazette here.
They also donated 50 copies of their “Fifty Years Of Adventure” Book as a gift for our regular supporters.
Fifty Years of Adventure is a compilation of tales by Cicerone authors. A story to celebrate each year Cicerone has been publishing outdoor activity guidebooks, the collection is a delicious hotpot of adventures in their every shape and form.
