Oakwood Refurbishment

The Oakwood Annexe was built back in 1985 when it’s sole function was for residential purposes. It allowed groups to benefit from a completely self-contained accommodation unit with it’s own toilets and showers, kitchen, lounge and dining area.

After our Acorn House build was complete in 2017, Oakwood was then used for staff accommodation, allowing our trainees to live on site, but we are finding that the space is under utilised and could actually be transformed into something extremely useful.

Our plans are to refurbish the upper level of Oakwood, to keep some rooms for staff accommodation and the lower level will be transformed into an accessible changing places toilet.

Currently, our on-site groups have to travel back up the hill from the bottom field to use the bathroom whilst out on activity. This is taking valuable time away from participants getting involved with an activity and as our number of service users with profound disabilities increase, it has become increasingly impractical.

We are hoping that by refurbishing this building we’ll be able to maximise the use of the space and create a new changing places bathroom which will have a positive impact on our service users experience.

We have had some initial plans drawn up by the architects and are currently developing these further.
