Oakwood

This self-contained annexe is situated in the grounds of Bendrigg Lodge and is suitable for groups of up to a maximum of 22 people.
Accommodation is on two floors in small dormitories. There is a large dining/lounge area with a fully-equipped kitchen, two shower/washroom/toilet areas and drying facilities.

This building has proved ideal for small groups of people with learning disabilities taking part in courses designed to promote independence. It is also particularly suitable for training schemes, schools, colleges and youth & community groups.

Oakwood can accommodate groups with one or two wheelchair users, but it is not ideal for people with severe physical disabilities because of its location in the grounds and limited space within the building.

Group members take an active part in organising and carrying out certain domestic duties, which include making breakfast and packed lunches, washing up and being involved in the end-of-course clear-up. For many guests with a disability, this may be their first opportunity to have a go!

At certain times of the year Oakwood can be hired by groups wishing to be self-catered with their own independent programme or with activities provided by Bendrigg tutors.
