Volunteers

Bendrigg Trust is one of the very few residential activity centres in the UK working specifically with groups of people with a disability. We use our activities to promote inclusion, encourage independence and build self-confidence in all our visitors.

Bendrigg volunteers

For over 30 years, we have used volunteers to support our staff to deliver the residential programmes.  We work closely together as a ‘team’ ensuring that visiting groups get the best care and support and that the centre runs smoothly and efficiently. Up to 150 volunteers each year stay at the Bendrigg Trust, either for a week or weekend to assist in meeting these ultimate goals. Examples of duties that may be undertaken include: setting tables and clearing up after meal-times, helping to prepare equipment for the activity sessions, assisting our staff in non technical aspects of the delivery and helping to clean up the centre after the group’s departure.
Without this volunteer help we would not be able to provide the same quality of courses or adventurous experiences to our visiting groups.

We also encourage volunteers on a daily basis who offer invaluable help with the general day to day running of the centre. This could include assisting with the catering team, working in the 15 acres of grounds or helping with the never ending tasks of maintenance and development.

Bendrigg can accredit Duke of Edinburgh and John Muir Award schemes. We can also provide references and testimonials for volunteers to help with future employment and educational opportunities. But more importantly it provides an ideal opportunity to develop personal skills and strengths whilst giving time and energy to others.
